In May 2026, the Spring/Summer edition of China International Fashion Week grandly kicked off in Beijing. Centered on the theme “Edge & Vigour”, this season aligns with the policy direction of the Ministry of Commerce featuring new consumption, new scenarios and new driving forces. It fully showcases the integrated achievements of oriental aesthetics, intangible cultural heritage innovation, digital and intelligent technologies, as well as sustainable fashion, serving as a key showcase for the high-quality development of China’s apparel industry.

Sustainable fashion stands as the absolute core of the event. Teaming up with the China Fashion Designers Association, JD Apparel staged the grand show JD Fashion · Crafted Style. Together with 15 benchmark brands, the show presented a systematic guide to sustainable daily wear across four chapters: Pristine Simplicity, Flowing Radiance, Boundless Innovation and Diverse Vitality. The chapter Pristine Simplicity features natural and biodegradable fibers such as cotton, linen and lyocell. Flowing Radiance focuses on high-quality, low-environmental-impact fabrics including silk and acetate. Boundless Innovation explores recycled polyester and functional eco-materials. Diverse Vitality combines traditional craftsmanship with modern circular design, enabling mutual empowerment between heritage arts and green development.

Oriental aesthetics and the revitalization of intangible cultural heritage emerged as major highlights. Multiple designer brands blended traditional crafts such as Suzhou embroidery, Hunan embroidery, gambiered Guangdong silk, tie-dye and batik with modern tailoring, launching collections that boast profound cultural heritage and practical wearability. For instance, one brand blended time-honored Song brocade with recycled fibers to create lightweight and breathable summer fabrics. The material retains the unique luster and texture of traditional Song brocade, while cutting costs and environmental footprint, realizing the modern reinterpretation of intangible cultural heritage craftsmanship.

Digital and technological empowerment runs through the entire event. Technologies including AI design, virtual fitting, 3D pattern making and digital fabric libraries have been widely adopted, greatly shortening R&D cycles and reducing waste from sample garments. According to the organizing committee, brands at this fashion week saw their average R&D cycle cut by 30% and sample garment consumption reduced by 40%, marking remarkable results in digital transformation.

The number of overseas buyers in attendance increased by 35% year-on-year, reflecting the growing international recognition of Chinese design, craftsmanship and brands.
